RETURN ON INVESTMENT IN COACHING

When we look at more tangible numbers, we find that many studies have shown a return on investment (ROI) that is highly favorable.

A survey of Manchester Inc of 100 executives found that coaching provided an average return on investment of almost 6-times the cost of the coaching.

 

Another research study from Manchester Inc of Fortune 1000 companies, who had engaged in coaching for performance, skills or change

  • Most respondents were executives at VP level or higher 

  • 60% aged between 40-49  

  • Coaching lasted between 6 months and one year

A recent global survey found that almost one-fifth of respondents (19%) indicated an ROI of at least 50 (5,000%) times the initial investment while a further 28% saw an ROI of 10 to 49 times the investment. Companies that use or have used professional coaching for business reasons have seen a median return on investment of 7-times their initial investment.

According to the ICF, individual executive coaching clients, as distinct from corporate clients where the coach is retained by the corporation on behalf of the executive, also reported a strong ROI on their coaching investment, with an average of 3.44.

International Coach Federation 

According to research from MetrixGlobal Research, Fortune 500 firms reported an on average ROI of $7.90 for every $1 invested in coaching.

 

A 529% return on investment was produced by the leadership coaching process (excluding the benefits from employee retention). The respondents indicated that four of these intangibles were improved by over 8%:

  • increased bench strength 8.5%

  • improved team work 8.4%

  • increased collaboration 8.5%

  • increased employee engagement 8.1%

 

Retention was increased by 7.5%, according to the respondents.

 

Two of these areas were greater than a 7% improvement:

  • quality of work products or services improved by 7.5%

  • productivity increased by 7.3%

 

Net revenue was estimated to have increased by 6.5% and the cost of operations was estimated to have been reduced by 6.3%.
